School Profile

Independence High School is an alternative high school in the Alhambra Unified School District. The classroom facilities are located at Century High School. The Century location is a new facility that opened in September 2011, offering technologically updated classrooms. With the appointment of a new principal, Mr. Phuong Nguyen, a focus on Common Core instruction, and the needs of twenty-first century learners, Independence High School has entered a new era.

The school serves approximately 80 to 150 students annually, ages 14 thru 19. Students come from four different cities in the San Gabriel Valley: Alhambra, Monterey Park, Rosemead and South San Gabriel. Independence has a predominantly Hispanic student body, with approximately 27% English Learners. Almost all of those identified fall in the intermediate to advanced California English Language Development Test (CELDT) range. We have occasionally had special education students.
